A tour­na­ment that’s more like a big party: Every year the rid­ing world cel­eb­rates the CHIO World Eques­tri­an Fest­iv­al in Aachen.

Experts call it the “Wimbledon of equestrian sport”: the “Concours Hippique International Officie” in Aachen , CHIO for short, is the largest and best-attended equestrian event in the world.

Each summer the World Equestrian Festival attracts more than 350,000 visitors to the Imperial City of Aachen.

The tournament consists of the classic equestrian disciplines of jumping, dressage, driving, and the newly-added eventing and vaulting, which were incorporated into the show in 2007.

Both individual and team winners are selected for each discipline. The annual highlight is the Aachen Grand Prix, the jumping competition held on the Sunday.

The CHIO Aachen’s competition programme lasts from Friday to Sunday of the following week.
